WHEN PRAYING IN GREAT WEAKNESS

A common mistake we all tend toward making is to pray our most desperate, needy prayers with no supporting truth. Perhaps we all tend to make our misery and extreme need the basis of appeal to God.

Thus we set aside the cross and all Christ’s work on our behalf and concentrate on our difficulties. God cares about this, of course, but that which gives us assurance as we pray is to fasten our heart on, and make our prayer in, the name of Jesus-remembering and using all his great Person and work as our offering to the Father. To know his Name brings implicit trust in him.

Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Ps 9:10

Cling to the cross, the burden will fall.—hymn, "Once for All"
